What’s There?
The Manchester Christmas markets have grown year after year into one of the city’s most popular festive attractions. Today they feature more than 300 stalls across the city centre, all within easy walking distance of each other. Stalls showcase a wide range of food, drink and handcrafted gifts from local makers and European traders. Visitors can enjoy seasonal favourites such as mulled wine, bratwurst, pancakes, paella, Lancashire hotpot, apple strudel, hog roast, and an assortment of chocolates and sweets. Covered bars and heated seating areas provide shelter if the weather turns, and standout attractions include the large illuminated Santa Claus, a traditional German wooden pyramid and the singing reindeer display in Albert Square.
Insider Tips
When you buy a drink, you may pay a small deposit for special mugs or glasses. If you don’t want to keep the mug as a souvenir, return it to reclaim the deposit. This simple step keeps costs down and avoids clutter while supporting the market’s reusable-cup approach.
Dates and Opening Hours
The markets run each winter; for the season noted here they were open from 10 November to 20 December, with the Albert Square site remaining open until 21 December. Most bars and food stalls operate until around 9pm daily, though exact opening hours can vary by stall and location.
