I use Clorox Bleach around the house for many tasks (you might recall my post on their Mom Moments blog). Recently I discovered another simple use for the empty bottle: a DIY catching game for kids.

This easy project requires just an empty, rinsed and dried Clorox bottle, a utility knife, some duct tape, and a few small balls. It’s a quick way to upcycle the bottle and create an engaging outdoor activity.

Start by carefully cutting off the bottom of the bottle. Take appropriate safety precautions when using a knife—cut away from your body and keep fingers clear of the blade. An adult should handle this step if children are involved.

Once the bottom is removed, peel off the label and clean any remaining adhesive. To make the catcher more attractive and kid-friendly, wrap the bottle with colorful duct tape or decorate it however you like. The tape also reinforces the cut edge so it’s safer to handle.

The finished bottle becomes a simple hand-held catcher. Toss lightweight balls gently and practice catching—or turn it into a game by taking turns tossing and catching at different distances. It’s a great way for young children to build hand-eye coordination while having fun outdoors.

This activity keeps little ones active and entertained without needing expensive gear. Because the bottle is lightweight and durable, it’s ideal for backyard play, park visits, or even a quick game on the driveway.

In addition to being a fun toy, this project is a straightforward way to recycle a plastic bottle and give it a second life. It’s an approachable craft that encourages creativity: try adding stickers, painting the tape, or making a set of catchers in different colors for team games.

Simple, safe, and playful—this recycled Clorox bottle catcher is an easy weekend project that turns ordinary household waste into outdoor fun.
